A Typical Day Might Include:



  • Makes decisions independently on engineering problems, practices, and methods and may create and refine unique design solutions. In the case of a licensed staff member, acting as a lead project engineer, this includes but is not limited to, the stamping/sealing of one's drawings/documents as well as drawings/documents done as the professional in "responsible charge" as defined by the applicable statute of jurisdiction. 
  • May plan and develop engineering projects concerned with unique or controversial problems, offering highly specialized knowledge and skills in a particular branch of engineering. Acts as a mentor, coach, tutor and resource for less experienced staff.
  • May supervise, coordinate, and review the work of a team of engineers and designers working on the same assigned project.
  • Represents the firm in meetings and conferences to resolve important questions and to plan and coordinate a project.
  • Supervision and guidance related largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, policy matters, and/or unusual problems and developments.
  • Maintains continuing professional education as detailed in registered states’ voluntary or mandatory requirements.
  • Travel may be required.


  • Providing technical leadership, guidance, and support to project engineering staff without the need to assume responsibility for the direction of others.
  • Contributing to business development, proposal, and pursuit efforts as well as the provision of technical consulting services to clients.
  • Interfacing with multiple engineering disciplines, project management, system owners, vendors, and contractors via phone, email, and meetings (both live and virtual).
  • Nurturing and promoting inter-discipline, inter-department, and inter-office cooperation and collaboration while driving initiatives to optimize and improve work and staff sharing processes by participating in multidisciplinary strategy sessions.
  • Participating in civic, discipline-specific, and professional activities / associations.

Qualifications You’ll Need on Day One:

  • A bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college with 10+ years of experience.
  • An active Professional Engineering (PE) license with experience as a mid-level process engineer or higher is required.
  • A solid understanding of chemical process systems control philosophies, including P&ID development, and familiarity with applicable building codes and standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of fluid transfer, heat exchange, friction loss in piping systems, including design and operation. Previous experience with design of experiments and authoring of technical reports. Previous experience running computer-based simulations.
  • A background in designing ultrapure / high-purity water, specialty gas, solvent / acid / hazardous wastewater treatment systems, or related structures.
  • In-depth knowledge, including design and operation, of fluid transfer, heat exchange, and friction loss in piping systems.
  • Experience designing experiments, authoring of technical reports, and running computer-based simulations.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while reacting to shifting priorities to meet business objectives and deadlines.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Revit preferred.

Bonus Points if You Have:

  • Experience in the semiconductor or battery manufacturing industry.
  • System owner experience.
  • Experience using (or strong desire to learn) BIM, along with AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Technical publication credits.
