Daily overview
Perform daily walk downs of existing overhead Trestle piping system used to provide services (Steam, Chilled water, Caustic soda, acid, and various solvents) to several chemical production buildings. With a focus on identifying reliability issues and system equipment that no longer preforms at peak performance. Requires knowledge and understanding of equipment reliability and preventive tools used to identify length of service and extend the life of the equipment. Maintain pipes and equipment used to provide Trestle services to production buildings utilizing a variety of techniques and equipment common to this trade. Perform on-site inspection and needs assessment; check and test completed installations and repairs.
Chemical/environment expertise
Familiar with chemical compatibility of solvents, acids, caustic with piping and fittings. Familiar with environmental weathering on insulation, heat tracing, fittings, valves, and actuators.
Working with everyone else on site
Requires the ability to multitask and prioritize equipment and system failures to reduce the impact on production. Working with plant professionals and other contract pipe fitters to develop both short term and long-term action items to resolve current and future issues. Must be able to collaborate with different trades to ensure a systematic step by step approach to create a repair plan. .
Planning/Working
Determine and obtain (if needed) supplies and equipment needed to make repairs; Operating Man lifts, erect and use ladders, scaffolds and chain falls; work in elevated and confined spaces, on roof tops, in crawl spaces or pipe chases, at any height from below ground level to several stories high, remove piping and fitting and size new piping and fittings to fit securely and without leakage; cut threads and pipe on location or in shop as conditions permit. Repair and replace pumps and related equipment as necessary.
Work according to blueprints, sketches and/or personal instructions. Determine where piping supply and returns are located, and which production buildings are connected; compare systems pressures and flow; to normal system settings to recommend changes as needed. Utilize appropriate methods, procedures, and equipment for worksite; work with and on cast iron, plastic, copper, black steel and galvanized pipes as dictated by current piping and/or system requirements; locate mislabeled or unidentified pipes.
Working with Trestle engineer
Requires consistent and frequent update on the status of projects and repairs both verbally and electronically. Communication - Photos
Safety
Always maintain safe working conditions by using supplies and equipment properly and taking necessary precautions. Perform duties in areas which may contain toxic fumes or agents using appropriate safety equipment and procedures; complete tasks requiring elevated work; transport tools and equipment to worksites throughout campus including stairwells, ceilings, basements, rooftops, pipe chases, crawl spaces, etc.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Possession of an authorized journeyman's license as a pipefitter.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints. - Ability to transport, use and maintain heavy tools and the full range of pipefitting supplies and equipment, including different kinds of piping, wrenches, sledgehammers, soldering irons, welding torches, thread cutters, chain falls, ladders, scaffolds, etc.
Ability to access pipes, pumps and heating equipment located at varying heights from below ground to several stories high and in confined areas.
Ability to work in elevated areas.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Michigan vehicle operator's license and satisfactory driving record as determined by company policy.
Ability to work in hazardous working conditions utilizing appropriate safety precautions.
Some experience as a maintenance pipefitter.
