Job Description

Kite Pharma, Inc. is focused on the development and commercialization of novel cancer immunotherapy products designed to harness the power of a patient's own immune system to eradicate cancer cells. We believe our immunotherapy is a market-redefining approach to the treatment of cancer.

We are seeking a Manager, Manufacturing Projects, to support a commercial biotechnology facility in El Segundo that includes general laboratories for clinical and commercial bio-processing.

Under minimal supervision, this position's main accountabilities are managing staff that are focused on MES Front Line Manufacturing support functions while closely collaborating with the Manufacturing, Quality, F&E, and MSAT / Process Development Units.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Directly manage a team responsible for MES Front Line support functions
  • implementation leads to support of commercial and clinical cell therapy products
  • Build and manage a team; provide necessary training and ongoing coaching, discipline and recognition of direct staff, including performing annual performance reviews
  • Manages technical support staff schedules to ensure deliverables are met
  • Ensuring early visibility and awareness into implementation risks, identifying preventative measures, investigating, and troubleshooting equipment
  • Investigate and resolve equipment/process implementation issues, identifying root cause, and proposing process improvements to senior management
  • Devises and implements CAPAs/CCs to address root cause and ensure effectiveness
  • Collaborating with technical and operational stakeholders to resolve implementation issues
  • Lead team of Manufacturing owners for project related Change Controls and CAPAs
  • Ensure staff maintains GMP and technical training and provides training/guidance to direct reports
  • Selected individual may lead and/or manage high level/corporate projects
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by Management



Basic Qualifications:

  • MA/MS/MBA in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or equivalent with 4+ years of experience Or
  • BA/BS in Biochemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology or equivalent with 6+ years of experience.
  • High School with 10+ in pharma/biotech experience.



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous supervisory or managerial experience is desired
  • Broad technical knowledge of cGMP compliance and experience with running and/or leading projects
  • Possesses good communication skills to promote cross function discussions and communications
  • Experience leading cross functional teams to obtain project deliverables
  • Working knowledge of scientific and engineering principles
  • Skilled at creating and delivering presentations
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, and Project
  • Cell culture, cell/gene therapy and/or aseptic processing experience is desired
  • Knowledge of ERP systems implementation is desirable
  • Certified Quality Engineer, Six Sigma Green Belt, Six Sigma Black Belt or similar is a plus
  • Technical writing and protocol/report writing
  • Ability to think critically, and demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to function efficiently and independently in a changing environment
  • Self-motivated and willing to accept temporary responsibilities outside of initial job description
