Job Description
Albemarle Corporation is currently seeking a Process Technology Chemist to work within the Bromine Research and Technology (R&T) group at our Magnolia, Arkansas facility. The R&T group develops and executes projects to materially improve existing processes; leads troubleshooting for any major process issues with existing processes and participates in the introduction of new products.
This Process Technology Chemist role will collaborate with an existing R&T Chemist who shares all listed roles and responsibilities. However, the Process Technology Chemist role will have a strong primary focus on those responsibilities directly supporting Manufacturing goals. Project allocation among both Chemists will also partially depend on personal areas of expertise. Both Chemists will report to the Magnolia R&T Manager.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze existing process problems and define robust and innovative solutions with limited oversight.
- Analyze existing processes and identify material improvement opportunities with limited oversight.
- Collaborate with other chemists, engineers, and stakeholders to develop experimental protocols to evaluate new product commercialization, debottlenecking efforts, increases in plant capacity, major operability improvements, improvements in plant HS&E performance, etc.
- Collaborate with chemists and other engineers/scientists to scale up processes from bench to pilot to commercial scale and to select the optimal process technology for each process step.
- Become the site expert in understanding the detailed chemistry and reaction mechanisms for each of the Magnolia plant processes.
- Participate in troubleshooting of significant process issues, as needed.
- Actively contributing to the innovation and ideation process through the development and justification of new project proposals.
- Providing technical support to specific manufacturing areas.
- Report writing, presentations, project management.
- Continual development of your professional skillset.
- Travel for this role should be limited and typically < 20%.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- B.S. and M.S. in Chemistry with minimum 3 years of chemical industry experience as a research chemist or PhD in Chemistry. Applications with experience levels of lengths that greatly exceed the minimum qualifications are also welcomed.
