Description

Description
The University of Washington’s Chemical Engineering Department invites applications in computational science and engineering for a position at the rank Associate (Tenure-eligible), or Full (Tenure-eligible) Professor, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The open position is a full-time appointment with 9-month service period.  Start date negotiable after September 1, 2024. Our school offers a highly collegial and collaborative culture, with broad interdisciplinary research ties across campus.

The University of Washington is a science and engineering leader in computation, modeling, and data sciences, from atmospheric sciences and oceanography to quantum chemical systems and protein design. The university supports outstanding research computing infrastructure, and our regional industry and research climate includes leading tech companies, non-profit research organizations, and the DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.

A successful applicant will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching in the chemical engineering core curriculum, develop innovative and high-impact funded research programs of international repute, establish elective courses in their areas of expertise, and contribute to the goals and missions of the department, college, and university. They will be expected to leverage our campus and regional research, training, and employment environment to develop a world class research and educational program in molecular computations and data sciences.

UW has a culture of inter-departmental and cross-college collaboration, as well as close relationships with regional institutes, clinics, and industry partners. This culture is fostered by a set of well-resourced and successful interdisciplinary institutes in clean energy (http://cei.washington.edu), molecular engineering and sciences (http://www.moles.washington.edu), nano-engineered systems (http://www.nano.uw.edu), medicine (https://www.uwmedicine.org), and data sciences (http://escience.washington.edu).

We are building a diverse faculty and encourage applications from women and minority candidates, individuals with disabilities, and people from other underrepresented identities or groups historically excluded from chemical engineering. We look forward to learning how the applicant's values, experiences, or future plans for teaching, research, and service would support our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility.

The department currently has a core group of 21 research, teaching, and tenure-track faculty, 18 joint and adjunct faculty, and approximately 224 undergraduate, 94 graduate, and 10 postdoctoral scholars.

Additional information about the department can be found at http://www.cheme.washington.edu.

The University continues building its culturally diverse faculty and staff and strongly encourages applications from women, underrepresented minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans. The University is a first-round awardee of the National Science Foundation’s ADVANCE Institutional Transformation Award to increase the advancement of women faculty in science, engineering, and math (see www.engr.washington.edu/advance). Moreover, College of Engineering has consistently had one of the highest percentages of women faculty in the top 50 colleges of engineering (US News and World Report Undergraduate Rankings). Additionally, the University’s Office for Faculty Advancement promotes the hiring, retention, and success of a diverse and inclusive faculty at the University of Washington.

The successful candidate will be relied upon to support our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

The base salary range for the position will be $13,000 - $19,000 at the Associate Professor level, and $16,000 – $29,000 at the Professor level per month for a 9-month service period, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with these positions may include a one-time relocation incentive.

Requirements

Must have earned a doctorate (or foreign equivalent) in Chemical Engineering, or related field, by the date of appointment.

Must have a distinguished publication record in molecular computations and/or data sciences.
