POSITION TITLE:  Process Engineer – Atchison Facility


POSITION PURPOSE
: Maintain/Improve product quality, safety, and manufacturing effectiveness through daily troubleshooting and resolution of process difficulties. Optimize manufacturing processes to provide sustainable gains in cost effectiveness and product performance through capital projects, statistical analysis, designed experiments, and procedural changes. Participate in multi-functional teams (operations, R&D, quality, 5S, and process improvement) to resolve problems and develop new products.  Start up new products and equipment (supervise installation, troubleshoot initial production, ensure new processes and products meet requirements, update documents, provide training to plant personnel).


I.              REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
  • Reports to: Production Engineering Manager

II.            QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering required
  • 2-3 years' experience in manufacturing environment preferred
  • Strong leadership, coaching and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong computer skills.  Experience in the following are a plus: MS Project, Microsoft Office, Data Management, Statistical Process Control software (miniTab, etc.) and drafting software (AutoCAD)
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Good project management skills
  • High degree of self-guidance for continuous improvement and autonomy

III.           MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES & COMPETENCIES


Engineering

  • Develop and implement optimal, cost effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Maintain process documentation, including maintaining and creating new piping and instrumentation diagrams, as well as other flow diagrams. 
  • Provide process engineering support for maintenance projects and capital projects.  
  • Develop, track and coordinate data collection and reporting including Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) metrics.
  • Perform project execution activities including procurement, contractor management, change management, startup and commissioning support.


Operations/Quality

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure system performance, availability and reliability targets are achieved.
  • Identify and implement engineering solutions to improve process operations, including improvements in quality, capacity, uptime, rate, cost, safety, health and environmental.
  • Provide troubleshooting and technical support as needed. 
  • Monitor system performance for deviation from targets, and provide guidance on corrective actions. 
  • Maintain and create new standard operating procedures to ensure consistent plant operations.
  • Train management and operators on equipment, equipment operation and process.


EHS

  • Support MGP Safety Up, individual safety subcommittee activities and the EHS department by providing technical support, training and expertise as needed.  
  • Monitor and provide support for SEM suggestions.
  • Assist in the implementation and sustaining of corporate safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Participate in incident investigations and support implementation of corrective actions. 
  • Comply with, understand and enforce all company policies, procedures and standards.


Shift Supervisor Fill-In for Supervisor Vacancies (Occasional)

  • Manage hourly employees to achieve maximum production of top quality products in a safe and efficient manner
  • Plan and organize shift activities, determining manpower requirements and manpower utilization necessary to meet desired goals
  • Communicate and coordinate production requirements for assigned shift

IV.          PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Lifting up to 50lbs to shoulder height occasionally
  • Physical mobility: extensive walking, climbing, stairs, kneeling and stooping
  • May require standing for extended periods of time
  • Physical dexterity: telephone, computer, electronic equipment, tools, machinery
  • Occasional driving of a vehicle
  • Sensory requirements: hearing, listening, smelling, touching, speaking, tasting, seeing, distinguishing colors
  • Ability to endure extreme temperature condition, heat and/or cold
  • Stationary working at a computer terminal or keyboard
