Description

Position Overview:

Under general supervision of the Chief Scientific Officer and other senior personnel, the Senior Fermentation Engineer will oversee the optimization and scale-up of fermentation-based enzyme production for use in the biomanufacturing of healthy sugars: tagatose and allulose.

What you will do:

  • Evaluate and manage enzyme contract manufacturers
  • Scale-up and/or oversee scale-up of enzyme production and purification from the bench to tens of thousands of liters fermentation volume
  • Working with laboratory scientists:
    • Evaluate alternative expression hosts for enzymes currently used in Bonumose’s biomanufacturing processes
    • Develop and/or oversee development of optimal expression conditions for enzyme production in food-approved microorganisms
    • Develop and/or oversee development of optimal downstream processing methodologies

What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in biochemical or chemical engineering, biochemistry, or relevant discipline plus 2+ years of experience
  • Experience with fermentation, enzyme purification at commercial scale
  • Experience optimizing enzyme production and minimizing costs
  • Experience optimizing enzyme downstream processing and minimizing costs
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices or ISO 22000
  • Excellent organization and time management for performing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to problem solve and trouble-shoot
  • A desire to contribute to cutting edge work in the field of nutrition and biotechnology
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 25%, including international travel
  • Candidates with the following experience could have an advantage: Experience with enzyme immobilization, starch processing, or other enzyme-based sugar manufacturing processes

Work Environment:

Responsibilities will primarily be carried out in the office environment, and include occasional work in Bonumose’s laboratories, and processing facilities.
