Description
As a Health and Safety Manager at Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and directing the facility’s Occupational Health and Safety Program. This role is responsible for driving a proactive safety culture, ensuring regulatory compliance, and continuously improving workplace health and safety outcomes to support Zekelman’s commitment to a safe and healthy environment for all employees. The preferred candidate will hold a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation and an active OSHA certification, including either OSHA 501 & 511 (General Industry) or OSHA 500 & 510 (Construction).
You will partner closely with facility leadership, front-line supervision, union representatives, and corporate Health & Safety leadership to identify risks, implement effective controls, and ensure accountability across all safety initiatives. This is a fully onsite role located in Killeen, TX.
This role is ideal for a safety leader who thrives in a manufacturing or construction environment, brings strong coaching and influencing skills, and takes a hands-on, detail-oriented approach to safety program execution.
What You’ll Do
- Provide leadership, coaching, and guidance on all safety and health matters to facility leadership and front-line supervision.
- Manage post-incident processes including investigations, corrective actions, Workers’ Compensation claims, and Early and Safe Return to Work initiatives.
- Conduct routine and targeted inspections and audits of facilities, departments, equipment, and job functions to identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
- Recommend and implement hazard mitigation strategies aligned with the hierarchy of controls and Z Modular safety standards.
- Facilitate and participate in monthly union/management Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings and ensure timely completion of action items.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs including orientation, mobile equipment, crane operations, material handling, and hazardous materials.
- Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive Job Safety Analyses for all facility roles.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation including incident reports, risk assessments, and Workers’ Compensation records.
- Provide regular progress updates to the Director of Health and Safety using Intelex, Basecamp, email reporting, and other communication tools.
- Support safety initiatives and provide assistance across other Zekelman facilities as needed.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure ongoing compliance with applicable legislation and standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Who You Are
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction safety, manufacturing safety, or a related environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or recognized safety accreditation preferred.
- Preferred qualifications include a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation and OSHA certification in either OSHA 501 & 511 (General Industry) or OSHA 500 & 510 (Construction).
- Proven experience managing Workers’ Compensation claims and post-incident processes.
- Strong project management, organization, and documentation skills.
- Experience developing and facilitating safety training programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and general technology tools.
- Ability to maintain regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance as an essential function of the role.
- Commitment to leading and promoting health and safety practices in compliance with regulatory agencies and company policy.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, handle materials, and use hands and arms.
- Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull; must be able to lift up to 60 pounds.
- Manufacturing and industrial work environment.
- In-person attendance required.
