We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in either our Makawao, Maui, HI or Honolulu, Oahu, HI offices.
As a Project Environmental Engineer/Scientist, you will play a key role in supporting environmental stormwater compliance initiatives for municipal agency and aviation facility programs. Your responsibilities will span technical fieldwork, regulatory compliance, client collaboration, and public outreach. You will support projects ranging from construction and tenant inspections, design review, and regulatory reporting to community engagement and outreach associated with public stormwater programs. The ideal candidate will have experience coordinating multiple workstreams across technical, compliance, and community-oriented tasks, working closely with clients, project teams, and public stakeholders. Candidates with experience in stormwater programs, spill control planning and reporting, or community education are encouraged to apply.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
In this position, you will:
- Split time and responsibilities between field assignments and office assignments.
- Under the direction of senior staff, support and lead portions of technical project work from project scoping through final deliverables.
- Apply academic and industry knowledge, as well as experience gained from prior work experience to execute project work.
- Draft technical sections of project communications and reports.
- Provide training, guidance, and informal mentoring to more junior staff on their projects and within your technical competencies.
- Under the direction of senior staff, participate in communications with clients and internal teams within your discipline.
- Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation.
- Perform all work in accordance with company and client health and safety protocols, including - the company's foundational safety behaviors.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- 4+ years of related experience.
- Excellent technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time management skills. Must be proficient at writing technical reports to meet project requirements.
- Able to work independently on individual tasks supporting technical work and exhibit the ability to manage tasks and perform work on multiple projects or multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
- Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
- Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
Preferred Skills:
- Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field.
- Professional certification or planning to obtain professional certification, as applicable to the discipline.
- Stormwater program compliance experience.
- Experience in public or community outreach programs.
- Experience with SPCC (Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure) program implementation and/or training.
The salary range for this position in Makawao, Maui, HI and Honolulu, Oahu, HI is $79,000 - $89,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. Haley & Aldrich reviews salary ranges each quarter to assess competitiveness with the market.
