As a Senior Water Quality Engineer, you will support the planning, design, and implementation of water quality infrastructure and natural systems projects. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to assess contaminant fate and transport, design treatment wetlands and remediation systems, and model environmental impacts under changing climate and regulatory conditions.
You’ll work on a wide range of projects including:
* Watershed and regional-scale water quality assessments
* Nutrient and contaminant modeling in lakes and reservoirs
* Constructed wetlands and nature-based treatment systems
* Regulatory compliance and permitting support
* Mining remediation
Key Responsibilities
* Lead technical analysis of water quality data, modeling, and contaminant transport
* Develop and review technical memos, reports, and specifications
* Design and oversee implementation of treatment systems (e.g., wetlands, filtration, aeration)
* Support environmental permitting and regulatory compliance (e.g., WQ standards, ESA, WSA)
* Collaborate with civil, hydrogeological, ecological, and regulatory teams on integrated water infrastructure projects
* Mentor junior engineers and support team growth and development
Requirements
* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in environmental, Civil, or Chemical Engineering (or related discipline)
* Licensed (or eligible) Professional Engineer in British Columbia
* 10+ years of experience in water quality engineering or water resources
* Strong understanding of contaminant fate and transport, hydrology, and water chemistry
* Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (e.g., Canadian Drinking Water Guidelines, BC Water Quality Standards)
* Experience with modeling tools and GIS integration
* Excellent communication and technical writing skills
Preferred Assets
* Experience with CE-QUAL-W2 or other water quality hydrodynamic models
* Knowledge or experience with dilution modelling
You’ll be expected to work from the Burnaby office approximately two days per week, with occasional travel for client meetings, site visits, and team collaboration.
