Sandia National Laboratories is one of the country’s largest research and engineering laboratories, employing 8,100 people at major facilities in Albuquerque, New Mexico and Livermore, California. We make enduring contributions to secure our society against high consequence terrorist threats and national incidents through effective use of science, technology and systems solutions.
Since 1949, Sandia National Laboratories has developed science-based technologies that support our national security. Today, the 300+ million Americans depend on Sandia's technology solutions to solve national and global threats to peace and freedom.

Company History
Sandia National Laboratories' roots lie in World War II's Manhattan Project and its history reflects the changing national security needs of postwar America. Sandia's original emphasis on ordnance engineering — turning the nuclear physics packages created by Los Alamos and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories into deployable weapons — expanded into new areas as national security requirements changed. In addition to ensuring the safety and reliability of the stockpile, Sandia applied the expertise it acquired in weapons work to a variety of related areas such as energy research, supercomputing, treaty verification, and nonproliferation.
