Otsuka Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (OPC) is engaged in the production of pharmaceuticals designed to treat illness and consumer products conceived to maintain day-to-day well-being.
Founded in 1921, the Otsuka Pharmaceutical Group entered the I.V. solutions business in 1946. OPC, established in 1964, has become a leader in this field through the provision of nutrition management at the point-of-care. In 1971, OPC initiated its own drug development program. The expertise gained in the pharmaceuticals business has been applied to the creation of innovative consumer products as well.
Pharmaceuticals Business
Focusing primarily on the central nervous system, the vascular and circulatory system, the digestive and respiratory systems, ophthalmology and dermatology, OPC is engaged in the research and development, production, and sales of pharmaceuticals on a global scale, centered primarily at development bases in Japan, the U.S., and Europe.
We contribute to the treatment of illness with products such as anti-gastritis and anti-gastric ulcer agent Mucosta and antiplatelet agent Pletaal. In the field of ophthalmology, we have developed Mikelan Eye Drops for treatment of glaucoma and intraocular hypertension, and in the dermatology field, we offer Acuatim, a new fluoro-quinolone-type antibacterial agent for topical use. These core products are complemented by our I.V. solutions business.
Our diagnostics business develops diagnostic agents for in vivo and in vitro use, as well as reagents for research. Breath test agents and equipment to detect the presence of Helicobacter Pylori infection using stable carbon isotope 13C and diagnostic reagents for detecting H. pylori antibodies in urine specimens deliver rapid results without undue patient stress.
Consumer Products Business
OPC's consumer products business is engaged in product development based on the Nutraceuticals* concept. Pocari Sweat, Calorie Mate, and Oronamin-C Drink, innovative products that promote day-to-day wellness, have created new markets and earned the trust of consumers as time-honored best-sellers.
Nature Made® nutritional supplements introduced from the U.S. have become a trusted brand through our efforts to provide a constant stream of information to pharmacists and nutritionists, as well as health- and nutrition-conscious consumers. In addition, our line of Yasainosenshi and Sugoi Daizu chilled products continues to expand.
Our Rejuvenate business focuses on products that support the restoration of youthful bodies and spirits. InnerSignal Rejuvenate Extract is the key item in our newly developed InnerSignal series of Cosmedics** products.
